Autumn Quarter Registration

Registration for incoming students begins at 6:00 a.m. on June 23.

Please note:

• The University of Washington will not allow you to register until you have provided proof of measles immunity. If you have not already received information from the University regarding proof of immunity, please call the UW Hall Health Primary Care Center at (206) 616-4672 for information.

• All course registration is done on a first-come first-serve basis and some class sections fill quickly. We encourage you to be ready to register at 6 am on June 23.

• You will be required to register for 3 core classes Autumn Quarter. These classes will total 12 credits, giving you full-time student status.

• You are not required to take additional elective courses Autumn Quarter.

Course Registration:

1. You may register for your courses by following the instructions at the UW web-based registration system, MyUW. In order to access MyUW, you will need to have a working UW NetID. A UW NetID will also allow you to set up your UW email account. To set up your UW NetID, please visit: https://uwnetid.washington.edu/newid/

2. Once you have created your UW NetID, then you can access the UW web-based registration system, MyUW, at: http://myuw.washington.edu/

5. Full-time incoming Evans School MPA (including PCMI) students should register for one section of each of the three following core classes:

   1. PBAF 511 Public Management I (4 credits)

   2. PBAF 516 Microeconomics (4 credits)

   3. PBAF 522 Public Budgeting and Financial Management (4 credits)

There are several sections of each core class, each with its own SLN number (the four-digit “Schedule Line Number” preceding the course title). When registering, be sure to use the correct SLN number for the course time that you have selected.

Dear Incoming Evans School Community Members:

Welcome to the Evans School community!  We want to congratulate you on your admittance to the Evans School and wish you luck in making your journey—mental and/or physical—to graduate school.  On behalf of the Evans community, we look forward to meeting you and having you with us in Parrington Hall!

As you prepare, think about the community of passionate and enthusiastic students you will find here at the Evans School, who are just as dedicated and concerned about public issues as you are (and will be slaving away in microeconomics, budgeting, and public management just like you will be!). 

This is where we come in.  The Evans Student Organization (ESO) brings the Evans community—students, staff, and faculty—together through creative, fun, public-value-enhancing events.  Our mission is to provide quality support to students, serve as your liaison to the Evans School administration, and strengthen the bonds that are the foundation of the Evans School community.  We are here for you.

A few things to think about for this coming September:

• Meet your fellow classmates! During orientation, ESO will host several events for you to meet other members of the Evans community. We hope you will join us!  More details to come in the future.
• Become an ESO officer! We encourage you to run for office and support your fellow classmates. 
  Think about all the practical leadership skills you could get from
  being part of ESO! Several positions for 1st year students to participate in ESO will be available in the fall, including:
  • 1st year representative
  • Secretary
  • 1st year Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS) representative
• Join a Student Interest Group!  Student Interest Groups (SIGs) are an excellent way to make connections with classmates that share your interests. The SIGs will host events at orientation as well. Summer Economics and Statistics

We encourage all students who feel like they would benefit from additional course work in the areas of economics and quantitative analysis prior to starting classes in the fall, to take our summer preparatory classes. Our summer microeconomics course and statistics course will help you build upon your existing skills and coursework and better prepare you for the Evans School curriculum.

This summer we will be offering preparatory courses in both of these areas:

• Term A (June 23-July 23) “Introduction to Quantitative Methodologies”
• Term B (July 24-August 22) “Introduction to Microeconomics and Public Policy”

We do not require that you take these courses, but they are very highly encouraged if you feel you could use extra help in these areas. In addition to helping you prepare for the fall, the classes also offer a great opportunity to meet some of your fellow classmates before the official start of the school year. Please note that these courses do not count toward your MPA degree requirements.

Tuition Exemption Information

If you are a Washington State employee, you may be eligible for the University of Washington Tuition Exemption Program.

Important Notes about Course Registration Using the Tuition Exemption Program

• After the UW Registration Office has received your tuition exemption request, you can register using the Registration option on MyUW (http://myuw.washington.edu/) on or after the appropriate registration eligibility dates.
• Please see the Academic Calendar for specific registration dates: http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/0809cal.html
• Course registration is not permitted prior to the appropriate space-available eligibility date for all courses when using a tuition exemption. However, you may attend classes with instructor permission prior to their registering during the first week of the quarter.

Evans School Waitlist Policy for Tuition Exempt Students

• If you are using your Washington State tuition exemption to register, you can request to be placed on a waitlist for Evans School courses. Having your name put on the waiting list may help, but it does not guarantee that you will get into the class. The only way to guarantee getting into a course is to register and pay.
• If you want to be put on the waiting list, please email evansreg@u.washington.edu starting at 6 a.m. on the first day of Period I Registration. Indicate the class and section you wish to be added to. When the quarter begins, show up to the first day of class to find out if space may be available in the course.

**Please note: Students registering before the designated tuition exemption registration date will not be permitted to convert to the tuition exemption program and will be required to pay regular tuition for all registered credits.
